Don’t Wait Till You’re Successful To Have Fun

Do you think you’ll be happy if you have to sacrifice everything to get to your dreams?

First things first, you’re guilty of being obsessed.
You’re so obsessed with your dreams that you sacrifice your sleep and practically live in hustle mode. You’re on a mission, yes sir!
But when was the last time you felt free?

Ambition is fantastic. But if you think that you can start having fun after you achieve your dreams, you’re gaslighting yourself.

I know that all this time, you kept chasing. You did well. You were fed the delusion that becoming the school topper is important. So you chased that golden number. Then you were advised that getting into a prestigious university would make your life easier. So you sacrificed your hobbies and chased those top universities. Eventually, it became clear that that was not it and your true ambitions lay elsewhere. So you chased the next big thing and then the next.

We get so obsessed with chasing one thing after the other, that man, we forget how to live. But what if when we finally achieve that dream, we realize we lost more than we got? Would it be worth it?

All the little things seem less important when we have bigger things to chase after. It’s such an unfair compromise.

Do you remember when we never once missed a chance to appreciate the smell of rain in the air? Now, you barely even realize when it rains. You voluntarily lock yourself inside four walls. You laugh less and spend more time by yourself because it feels like everyone else is holding you back. Maybe your friends aren’t able to contribute to your dreams, but is this the kind of life you want to live?

What’s the point of nailing success if we have to sacrifice our youth, our friends, our sanity and our sense of humour to get there?

Don’t punish yourself in the name of chasing your dreams. Not every day has to be a hustle and you’re allowed to have fun. Slow down and savour the sweetness of ‘chai’. Stop cancelling all your weekend plans and allow people to splash some colours in your life. Experience the thrilling fright of the rollercoaster instead of worrying about how you’ll look in the photo at the end of the ride.

Life allows some harmless cheating without any consequences. That feeling of guilt when you eat way too much cake on your cheat days? Stop being obsessed with it. You’re allowed to enjoy it. You worked so hard the whole week and if rewarding yourself can make you appreciate the work you put in, do it by all means.

We’re not cheating on ourselves if we’re having too much fun!
Sometimes, there is this anxious feeling that if life is going well, something is bound to go wrong sooner or later. We contain our emotions and limit happiness in the hope of “balancing” the scale. But there’s nothing wrong with being happy for long. Just like how our lows can go really low, our highs can get really high.

We don’t have to sacrifice everything to become who we want to be.
If our social life is going for a toss, involve more people to do the things we love. That way, we’re not compromising on anything.

Imagine how lonely it can get on the top if we don’t have people to celebrate our victories with.

Imagine how sad and selfish it would be for us to chase our dream and leave everyone behind to get it.

This moment that we’re living now, we’re not going to live it again. Don’t let the pursuit of our dreams overshadow the value of having fun. Some of the most beautiful things happen when they come naturally.

After all, what’s the point of dreaming if you’re slowly dying while chasing it?
