I Hope We Find Clarity

When I was a child, my mom would ask me every evening what I wanted for dinner. And almost always without fail, I’d hesitate. Should I say paneer paratha, or rice and dal, or maybe push my luck and ask for pasta? I would linger, undecided, until she shook her head and said, half exasperated: “Beta, if you don’t decide, how will I know what to cook?”

I smile when I think of that now, because in so many ways, adulthood feels the same. Life offers so many endless choices, and yet we stand there, much like children in kitchens, paralysed by not knowing. The options are plenty. The hunger is real. But without clarity, we’re left stuck in hesitation.

Clarity is a kind of magic. The moment we know what we want, the world begins to move. Obstacles don’t disappear, but they no longer look like dead ends. Complaints fade into the background. The trivial suddenly feels too small to fuss over. With clarity, our energy gathers into focus, like sunlight through a magnifying glass. It’s as if the universe itself leans in to help, clearing space for us to move forward.

Think back to a moment in your own life when you felt it. Perhaps you finally admitted the truth of what you wanted to leave behind, or declared with certainty what you wanted to build. Whatever it was, you probably noticed how the little irritation, the chatter, suddenly mattered less. That’s what clarity does; it pulls your gaze to the horizon instead of the pebbles underfoot. That moment of knowing, however fragile or transient, probably carried with it a surprising momentum.

Of course, finding clarity isn’t always simple. It isn’t a vending machine where we press B7 and get it neatly packed. In fact, it’s often wrapped in confusion.

In Indian philosophy, there’s a word: maya, which means illusion. Life can feel like that sometimes, full of layers and distractions that keep us from seeing clearly. We try to grasp answers, but they slip through like smoke. And yet, even in that haze, something within us is calmly working. Confusion itself can be a teacher, showing us what doesn’t fit, what no longer nourishes us, and what we can finally release. Clarity may demand the willingness to admit we don’t know yet, and the waiting can be maddening. We’d rather have motion, any motion, than sit in uncertainty.

And yet, the waiting has a purpose. Clouds don’t clear because we shout at them; they drift away in their own time, and suddenly the landscape makes sense again. Clarity is much the same. It requires patience, attention and above all, honesty with ourselves.

Clarity doesn’t erase struggle, but it gives struggle a direction. With clarity, we may still face long hours, failed attempts, or the pain of letting go, but now the struggle feels connected to something larger. It stops being meaningless weight and becomes meaningful labour. The difference between wandering endlessly and walking a difficult path is simply knowing where the path is leading. Even on hard days, it’ll help us feel tethered to meaning.

So if you’re in the in-between right now, take heart. Sit with yourself the way my mother used to sit with her ingredients, patient until the dish was ready. Pay attention to the signals: what makes you restless, what makes you come alive and what keeps tugging at your heart. That’s where clarity often hides.

I hope we find clarity. Not the fragile kind that fades with the day, but the kind that stays with us deeply. The kind that steadies our steps and makes us unstoppable. Because once we know what we truly want, life becomes more intentional. When we know, we stop living half-heartedly. We stop chasing everything and start moving toward something.

And maybe then, when we stand before all the choices life places before us, we’ll finally smile and step forward; no longer hungry or hesitant, but ready.
